The many beautiful things of life

Dress making

Appreciating beautiful designs on dresses has been something I have always done without so much words.
Time and time again while seeing a movie and a beautiful design I make a mental note to try to replicate that design for myself someday.
Sometime in 2014, I took up fashion classes with the all fabulous Asake Oge designs. An experience that was very helpful, thought-provoking, and great.

It was practicality all the way. She would teach, guide, correct and encourage you to go into your world of imagination and  be creative.
I tried a few things, shorts, tank top with the African Ankara print, pant, corporate shirts but not a dress. oh, I made massive mistakes, laughed at myself a lot, was frustrated so many times, and sometimes I just hit the jackpot….. that only happened with the tank top.
Some other things came up, then I lost the zeal to keep trying until I got myself a “pweetybaby”. The Brothers 28 stitches electric sewing machine. It was a gift from a sweetheart who believed I could do more that fuss over little errors here and there.

A few weeks later, I made the dress.
Cutting the material was easy, plenty mathematics anyway. But I did it. Should have taken pictures I forgot.
I do however have pictures of the dress before it was finally one piece, without sleeves and the side seam.

I humbly modeled my dress to church. May I say, it was a good day and resurrected the desire to keep on doing more.

Am going to keep practicing. There’s something I would love to try out soon. Keeping my hands in my pocket for now and away from the keyboard.
